McKenna Crossing is a Presbyterian Homes & Services senior living community located in Prior Lake, MN offering independent living, assisted living, and memory care apartment homes.
McKenna Crossing embraces an approach to life where the joy is in the journey. This belief is embodied in a path, the signature feature of McKenna Crossing that winds its way through the entire community and connects with Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church.
My family had the opportunity to use all of the services available at McKenna Crossing including independent living, memory care and two levels of assisted living. Through the many opportunities to make friends from happy hours, exercise classes, Hand and Foot games and daily breakfast, my parents built a community of friends and maintained those friends as they moved to different levels of care. Those social connections were so important to our parents’ wellbeing. And now, even since our parents have passed, we maintain relationships with their friends.
We appreciated that as our parents needs changed, they could stay in the comfort of familiar surroundings all in one building.
The staff was so friendly and truly cared, not just for our parents, but also for us family members.

My sister was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2015 and in 2020 when her husband was suffering with late stage lung cancer, we moved Sis to the Twin Cities under my guardianship. It was a lot to take on and I spent a lot of time identifying and researching senior living options that would provide quality of life, community and continuity of care as she progressed on her Alzheimer’s journey.
Because it was important to us that she was centrally located among her four siblings, I visited six senior communities in the Prior Lake, Savage and Lakeville area. I gathered info on pricing as well as amenities (dining facilities and meal plan options, exercise facilities, activities & outings provided), and staffing (nursing and personal care attendant staffing to resident ratios, dedicated activities staffing, maintenance and administrative staff, and staff turnover levels).
As I gathered all this info, (yes, I do tend to be data driven!), McKenna Crossing became an easy and obvious choice for Sis. She lived at McKenna for four years and while I am sorry to have to say that she passed away a few months ago, we – her family – could not be happier with the life she was able to live at McKenna.
Right from the first day she moved in to a one-bedroom apartment in the Assisted Living wing she (and all of us in her family) were made to feel so welcome and comfortable. A staff member was assigned to accompany her to the dining room and various activities during the first weeks when she was finding her way around. She was introduced to many, many other residents and quickly became a part of several social circles that she met up with for exercise classes, to walk the trails on the property, for meals in the order-off-the-menu dining room, and to help the front desk staff in greeting visitors, distributing mail and packages and doing any errands she was able to. Everyone truly made her feel valued and useful – which was so important to her as she was very aware of her Alzheimer’s and the impact it was having on her ability to contribute.
The staff was very helpful in keeping us aware of the disease progression and recognizing the hard facts when it was time to move Sis to the Memory Care (MC) unit. The process was eased by the fact that her new apartment layout was exactly the same as the old – and we decorated it exactly the same. Also staff and many of her resident friends frequently signed her out of MC to enjoy the many activities, to walk the halls and trails greeting people, and to dine in the main dining room. Everyone was so kind and caring. It truly is a community and I cannot imagine a place that could have been better!

Mckenna Crossing is a wonderful place. My father lived in the memory care community, and he couldn't have received more loving and attentive care. The staff at Mckenna Crossing are fully committed to their mission to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

We can’t say enough for our mother’s care at McKenna. Thank you to all at McKenna Crossing. She, along with the entire family, were treated with the upmost kindness and compassion. The staff was attentive, caring and made sure of mom’s comfort. McKenna’s atmosphere was one of joy, with an uplifting spirit. Our mother enjoyed exercise class and appreciated all the spiritual offerings. For us, we loved joining mom for meals in the dining room, complete with wonderful food and plenty of social interaction.
