My loved one (LO) lived in the Memory Care side. We started out ok, and then the situation devolved. The good: Sheryl is the sweetest and really tries to find programming that works for the residents in Memory Care. My LO ate great and gained much needed weight. The bad and ugly: There is high turnover in nursing staff, care staff, leadership, everyone. The constant change meant my LO was never comfortable and I was constantly meeting new people. Additionally, staff shortages meant that Assisted Living staff was shared with Memory Care and travelling nurses were used frequently. The AL staff were not trained in memory care and tended to struggle. The housekeeping staff was impossible to keep. The care staff was lazy. Day time staff did not believe in doing laundry, tidying up patient rooms, changing patients diapers regularly, etc. Day staff did the minimum: medication and feeding. Night staff did a lot of the work, but were limited with what they could do. What this means is my LO's room was always dusty, floors were sticky, trash piled up by the TV, etc. The bathroom was always gross because no one flushed the toilets that my LO forgot to flush. My LO's sheets were rarely washed. I found dead roaches in my LO's room multiple times. Residents were regularly being admitted to SNF's or discharged for "reasons", and I heard the staff rejoicing that it was one less patient to deal with. They do not care about retaining patients or being good caregivers. Leadership staff is more concerned with their career growth. Overall, if you are on a budget, go check out Fort Caroline Gardens. If you have some savings/funding, go anywhere else. No amount of discounts or sales makes this place worth it.

I have used this opening line before, usually with a negative review. You only get one opportunity to make a good first impression. This time the administrative staff at Brookdale Southpoint made a very good first impression. Starting with Veruschka when we were first looking for a place for my wife's father who was being discharged from a rehab facility with just a weeks notice and no place to go. She was very knowledgeable of all the details of her facility, very friendly and patient with all our questions, even going so far as to provide her cell phone number and telling us if we had any other questions to call her at anytime. The first place we took my father-in-law did not work out after less than 24 hours. We called Veruschka just to find she was off that day, but she spent a good portion of time helping us coordinate a pre-weekend move. She is such an Angel. She put us in touch with Stephanie, the Executive Director, and prepped her for our call, then Stephanie took over and went out of her way to help us out of a desperate situation, even adjusting the deadline for getting my wife's Dad moved in, twice. She coordinated the nursing help that would be needed to get us in the door and then the help he would need after our arrival. This brings us to Lonnie 2, personally I think he should be Lonnie 1, but I haven't met Lonnie 1 yet. Both main nurses are named Lonnie and I hope to meet Lonnie 1 soon. Lonnie 2 was there as soon as we walked in the door with a wheel chair for my father-in-law to borrow and assisted him in getting into the building. He treated my father-in-law like a real human and with a sense of humor instead of as a burden or an interruption to his routine. What a wonderful man. This transfer into the Brookdale facility was not a typical transaction for them or us. We had just moved my wife's father into a foster home facility the previous evening and got a call before 8:00 am the next morning stating that could not care for him and we had to get him out of there immediately. Four hours later and with the help of the Brookdale staff as mentioned above we had a place for him to go, but that was not the end of our ordeal, we still had the paperwork to do and what a mountain of paperwork. Stephanie was there to help every step of the way, she was extremely patient with all my questions and had clear and precise answers to all my concerns, even those she had never receive before. After more than 8 hours of exhausting phone calls and return calls and the help of the Brookdale staff, my father-in-law had a place to stay instead of being homeless, on a day that Brookdale does not normally allow move ins. That is what I call going above and beyond. 5 stars are not enough. Also kudos to Melvin the maintenance manger for asking my father-in-law about his desires in prepping his apartment. While I was doing the paperwork, my wife had the chance to meet quite a bit of the floor staff and she was just as impressed with them as I was with the administrative staff. I am sorry we cannot remember all their names so that they could get the recognition they deserve, but I maybe be able to post more later. One last comment, as we were leaving, it was not quite dinnertime but they allowed him to enter the dinning room early and greeted him by name on his very first day. Thank you Raven for making him feel special.

No stars in my opinion. I can't believe the lack of care they display in that place. Straight up neglect and I did not see gentleness or really much compassion. there was one very good attendant as far as her attitude but she was yelling instead of using a normal volume which i didnt understand the need for.
