I want to share my concerns about my recent experiences with the daycare administration. It has been a challenging time for me since my child was recently terminated from their care. While I understand the decision, this was the third time I felt compelled to involve DCF due to unexplained open wounds on my daughter. When I raised these issues, Jessica seemed to become defensive, which left me feeling unheard and anxious. As a parent, my instinct is to advocate for my child's well-being, and I believe it’s important for caregivers to be open to parental concerns.
Before enrolling my child, I was reassured by the policy handbook stating that any injuries or incidents would be documented, and I would be notified promptly. However, there were instances where reports were overlooked, and I discovered scratches and bruises only upon picking up my child. I didn't even know about certain outbreaks that was in the class… but it was said she received it from home, but when I took her to the hospital I was told other children pass it to other kids in daycare and school setting. It was disheartening to feel as though Jessica was shifting blame onto me, suggesting my child arrived with these injuries and spreading outbreaks clearly when they don't disinfect or clean their toys, bed mats, and furniture in those rooms .
In one particularly distressing situation where I found myself needing to contact DCF for a second time, I sought to speak with the District or Regional Manager. Unfortunately, Jessica provided me with incorrect contact information twice. Thankfully, I eventually got in touch with the Regional Manager, but I was dismayed to learn that I was required to sign a health check log every morning to inspect my child, under the threat of termination. I felt pressured to sign documents related to my child's care without having the complete context or understanding.
The third incident that led to my child’s termination was similar, as I faced more defensiveness from Jessica. Despite diligently signing the health check log every morning, there was still no explanation or incident report regarding an open wound on the back of my daughter’s head. Jessica attributed it to an incident that occurred before I checked her in, which was frustrating.
Ultimately, I received a call from the district manager, who informed me that my child required special care that the daycare could not provide. This was surprising to me, as the handbook outlines the type of care offered, which now seems contradictory. I believe my daughter is just like any other child, and her care needs should be considered she gets hurt in their care.
The teachers themselves are wonderful and deeply passionate about their work despite facing challenging circumstances. I notice many teachers and cooks have quit because they don't want to partake in any of the issues that are going on behind scenes under Jessica Hallford's leadership.
I genuinely believe that the Childcare Network Corporation should re-evaluate the leadership in these daycare facilities. It is crucial to have compassionate and professional administrators and managers who can effectively handle parental concerns and incidents involving children rather than becoming defensive or retaliatory.
One positive observation is that every time I reached out to DCF, I saw noticeable improvements in the facility. It would be clean, and teachers would be prepared to welcome the children instead of having parents wait. Those 30-day investigations seemed to motivate better practices during that period, but sadly, things would often revert afterward.
I hope for a better environment for all the staff and children.
My rating is low because poor communication with administration. The teachers are wonderful and that's what keep that place running because the children love them.
*all photos are on different dates but were the ones that raised a concern to me when there were no incident reports wriiten up picking her up. Only report written was for scar on head but I was given to different stories of how it occurred.
