At Brookdale Briargate it has been very impressive to see the Administrator Cheryl not only leading the community staff members and helping family members but she also on numerous occasions is sitting with a resident that needs to have some extra time to tell a story, redirecting or brining a snack to a different resident, or even gathering people to listen to music or sing. She really leads by example and is very involved in her community! So wonderful to see the connection she has with her residents, staff and family members.
- TGTina GregorApr 4, 20245.0After many months of debating and researching different memory cares, we moved mom into Brookdale Briargate. Mom is later stage dementia and had been living with my husband and I for about a year. Her dementia has progressed more rapidly than we anticipated. She went from being confused, but able to take care of her own basic needs, to needing almost 24 hour care. She could not even remember where her bed was, when standing in her own room. Our hope was to see her pass away peacefully at home, but we were at a point where we could not take care of her the way she needed to be cared for. We were all unhappy, but more, mom was unhappy. Brookdale was so very helpful from the very beginning. They explained their care philosophy, and were so very patient with my many questions. After a few days at Brookdale, I could see a difference in mom. She is smiling, laughing. She interacts with the caregivers and the other people that live in the facility. She loves her apartment, and she smiles and talks up a storm when I visit. She isn't always able to form complete sentences, but she says things like "so kind" and "like it so much." She thinks Brookdale is a tiny town, with it's own garden. She is still confused, but the confusion is okay, as long as she is happy. The care giving team at Brookdale go out of their way to know everyone that lives there. They are very kind and have a heart for people with this terrible disease. I could not be happier.
