Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are considered houses of God, a place of holiness and peace separate from the preoccupations of the world. They provide a place where Church members make formal promises and commitments to God. They are also the place where the highest sacraments of the faith occur — the marriage of couples and the "sealing" of families for eternity. Temples serve as the only place where ceremonies such as baptism and eternal marriage can be performed on behalf of those who have died. Temples point Latter-day Saints to Jesus Christ and their eventual life with Him.

Our family had recently experienced a devastating loss. We attended a session together and were spending time in the celestial room afterward. One parent who had lost a child shared a brief moment of laughter. A temple worker quickly intervened and reprimanded our group for being too loud. In that moment, the response felt rigid and lacking in compassion, especially given the circumstances. Policies matter, but so does sensitivity to human suffering.

The Cardston Temple feels strong and sacred. Its unique design reflects eternal truths and reminds me that temples are built for God, not for show. Inside, ordinances are performed that connect families forever. The Spirit here is reverent and uplifting, strengthening my testimony of the restored gospel.
