I just got my ducts cleaned by Capital HCEP. And it was not worth it. They say they seal off the vents in the house when they're cleaning, but they used some cheap plastic with adhesive that didn't stick well. The plastic either came off or didn't seal off the vents properly. This caused dust to fly everywhere in the house. I have spent hours cleaning up after them. And we've opened up the windows on this chilly day just to clear the air so we could stop sneezing! If you want your ducts cleaned, I don't recommend Capital.

Hello, I’m the husband of Sofia’s who just left a one star review. I’m happy to elaborate on this company’s sales tactics. Essentially they offered a “free” furnace diagnostic as part of the air duct cleaning. When Stevie was here, he and his accomplice, Grant staged a “phone call” to discuss the air flow “issues” and pulled out some unconvincing dramatics. “Oh yeah those numbers are way off! The static pressure should be such and such. Oh yeah we can send someone out right away to walk you through what’s going on.” Wow! Thank God you can send someone right away at dinner time. Then Justin comes and “walks” us through the situation and claims that our brand new furnace is aging rapidly and assured me that the furnace would die in “less than 10 years.” He said that it was working “way harder” than it should. He pointed to “burn marks” on pictures that may or may not have been our system. Okay, so our energy bills should reflect that our system is working itself to a premature death, right? Nope. And the burn marks? Found out later that our system would automatically shut off if there was any burning because it is a Smart system. Our energy bills are cheap as hell even with ancient, leaky windows. So none of this is adding up. Then he pointed out that our living room had the only return vent and assumed that this room would have the least temperature differential. Actually, the living room has the most differential, but only in summer for some reason. No convincing answer for that one either. He then told us that in order to correct the issue they would need to install more return vents, which would require redoing a section of the duct work, and the grand total would be $6,995. They left holes in our furnace, which Affordable Heating and Cooling fixed for free. Affordable’s old furnace in this house was 16 years old before it quit… when Affordable came, the technician accurately GUESSED which company sold us this scam and told us that we had nothing to worry about our system.

This is a highly unethical company. READ ALL THE ONE STAR REVIEWS. I hired them to clean our ducts and it came with a free furnace check up. The furnace guy gave me a total BS story about our 3-year old furnace being at the end of its life because of an air pressure imbalance. He called his boss who sent a super slimy sales guy out to our house at dinner time. He was at our house for hours trying to sell us $7000 of new air ducts that we don’t need. These guys were at our house almost the entire day. They showed us pictures of “the inside of our furnace” showing burn marks, tried to scare us into thinking we’re close to a carbon monoxide leak— turns out our furnace is smart enough to shut off in the event of burning so these pictures were fake/ not our furnace. I’m disgusted! The next day I noticed they had cut numerous holes in our furnace and hadn’t plugged them up. I fortunately called our local furnace company who originally installed our unit— I told him that we’d just been told we need $7K of new ductwork and he guessed it was Capital! — and he gave me a laundry list of horror stories from clients of his that have at one time used Capital — stories and pictures of them sabotaging people’s furnaces to make them stop working! BUYER BEWARE.

Furnace went out overnight Thursday/Friday. My usual HVAC guy is out of town until Monday, so having heard the WTMJ commercials about Capital's same-day service, I called to schedule an appointment at 9 a.m. on Friday morning. No way to get me scheduled until Monday. So not same-day. OK, fine. I'll get my guy to do it Monday. But after a long day of freezing, I saw Friday night that Capital had an online scheduling system. And, lo and behold, they had an appointment available from noon to 4 on Saturday. I screen shot the confirmation and arrange my schedule to be home from noon to 4. At 11:30 I get a call. "Hey, we got your message. Let me look at when I can get you in." I already have an appointment for 12 to 4, does this mean you aren't coming? "Well, no, that's a placeholder." That's funny, my confirmation says: "Thank you for booking with Capital Heating, Cooling and Electric! You are all set and we'll see you soon." So, to summarize: 1. Capital doesn't care if you have no heat for days and does not offer same-day service. 2. Capital online scheduling is simply a placeholder, not a real appointment, despite no such language when you schedule the appointment. This is a dishonest and intentional business tactic similar to overbooking on a plane. Pretty heartless when you are dealing with someone who has no heat. 3. Ask yourself: If Capital would lie about same-day service and would lie about scheduling, what would they do once inside your home?

Requested an on-site inspection of my HVAC system. It was 30-40 years old and they were offering a "tune up". I figured why not, I hadn't had the furnace inspected since buying the house. First time homebuyer. Technician gets here, looks inside the unit, checks CO levels and then slaps a big red sticker on the furnace claiming it is not safe to use. Unit is deteriorated and needs replacement immediately. Mind you, the unit ran fine during the past winter and CO levels within the house were OK. The tech calls in another gentlemen who, upon arrival, walks me through what is wrong, why it needs to be replaced, etc. All good, honest information. We sit down to review quotes for replacing the HVAC. Most basic furnace and AC was $21000. More efficient furnace and AC was about $25000. Last quote was over $27000. I was blown away - immediately started looking at state/county incentives to help pay for it. He stressed it needed to be replaced soon. It wasn't safe. Thankfully, I said I wanted to think about it and determine how I would pay for it. The next week, I had a different company (similar ratings and reviews) come in perform an inspection and quote entire HVAC replacement as well.. $11000. I ended going with a 3rd option. Similar furnace and AC units, same amount of labor. $9000. Make sure you shop around. Thankfully I didn't go with Capitol or else Id have spent over twice as much for the same thing.
