Let me save you some time: if you are looking for a reliable HVAC company anywhere in the vicinity of Staunton, VA, just pick APEX. They have been the best, most responsive, most professional, most helpful HVAC company we have used in the last decade. They have all of our business for the rest of time. (Special shout out to Mark Bobsin for taking us seriously and not trying to upsell us, even though we were desperate!) Here's the longer story if you need more convincing: ever since my wife and I moved into our house almost a decade ago, the heat pump made ungodly noises whenever the heat turned on, and it could rarely get the house up to temperature when outdoor temperatures were below freezing. We have had, I kid you not, six different HVAC companies out to take a look. We have been told at various times some combination of: (1) heat pumps are always loud, (2) heat pumps are never as effective as gas heat, (3) our unit is oversized for our house, (4) our ductwork is undersized for the unit, (5) the only solution is to rip out all the ductwork and replace the heat pump. Most recently, we were preparing to install three mini-splits at a cost of nearly $13,000 to supplement the heat pump since it couldn't seem to keep up in the winter. (The units had already been ordered, but the HVAC company that persuaded us to buy them hadn't collected a deposit and they didn't contact us for two months, so we really dodged a bullet there!) Enter APEX. On their first visit out, they did something that NOBODY had done before: they measured our ductwork. They also noted that we had a duct going straight out of the unit to the second floor, which could explain why it was so noisy on the second floor. After running some calculations, Mark explained that actually the unit was too small for the house, and the ductwork was WAY too small for the unit. He also explained that we were losing tons of pressure because of that duct going straight out of the trunk of the unit. This would explain both the noise and the ineffectiveness of our heat pump. His recommendation: reroute one duct and replace (and insulate) just 15 feet of ductwork in the basement. The cost? Under $3,000. The installers came out and did their thing on a Friday a couple months ago, and when I got home and went downstairs to examine what they had done, I was appalled: it looked nothing like we had been promised, and they had left a huge mess. I called Mark on his cell phone on Friday night (Sorry, Mark!), and he arranged for somebody to come back on Monday morning. They came and took a look, agreed that this was not acceptable, called the same installers back out, and they fixed it all that afternoon. It is now a thing of beauty. But the story doesn't end! Whenever the heat pump entered auxiliary heat mode, it would still make this horrific rattle. Fortunately, we didn't hear it on the second floor thanks to the rerouted duct, but it was still slowly driving us insane, especially during the recent cold snap. I called Mark, texted him a video, and he arranged for somebody to come out and take a look. He said he thought it was probably something "simple stupid." The guys were here yesterday. I triggered the auxiliary heat, the unit groaned like some unholy monster from the underworld, and they immediately did something that NOBODY had done before: they opened up the unit. And lo and behold, they identified the culprit: a loose screw. They grabbed it, screwed it in where it was clearly meant to be, and just like that, our decade-long heat pump nightmare was over. The guys even cleaned the fans while they were in there, I think just so that they could feel like they hadn't spent 45 minutes driving here all because of a single loose screw. Reader, I teared up! APEX saved us more than $10,000, and they restored our sanity during the winter months. And all because they were more interested in fixing the problem than selling us thousands of dollars of equipment we didn't need. Thank you, APEX, from the bottom of my heart.

I had Matt and another gentleman whose name I believe was Cady come out because I was getting no heat. They were extremely professional and helpful. They ultimately got my heating back up and running at a very reasonable price. This is the second time that I have used Apex, and I was impressed both times. Highly recommend.
