Of the three bids I received for a new HVAC system, Christian from Texan Mechanical was the only contractor who came out with pressure gauges and a CO monitor to evaluate my system and explore options for keeping it. Unfortunately, my system was too old, and the air circulation in my house was very poor. Christian solved the circulation problem by strategically locating an additional air return and replacing my HVAC with a high-efficiency system. It was money well spent, and I only wish I had done it sooner.

Michael and Kristin are wonderful people. They jumped through hoops to repair our HVAC system when our house was one the market. Our kids were grown and gone and we had no idea that our upstairs unit even had issues. Our buyers’ inspector found the problem and Michael dropped everything to get us repaired. I just can’t thank the Texan Mechanical family enough for taking care of us!!

What does an HVAC system include?
A new HVAC system typically consists of three main components: the condenser (located outside), the evaporator coil, and the furnace (located in the attic). These components work together to provide heating and cooling capabilities and distribute air throughout your home. A standard equipment replacement includes all these components but does not include ductwork.
How do you determine the size of my AC?
When providing a quote for a new AC system, we primarily base the sizing on your existing equipment. If you've made structural changes to your home, such as room additions, we recommend conducting a Manual J calculation to accurately determine your home's heat load and properly size your system.
How long do AC systems last?
HVAC systems typically have a lifespan of 10-15 years. Evaporator coils generally last 5-7 years, while condensers can last 10-15 years with proper maintenance. In Southeast Texas, furnaces may last up to 18-20 years due to infrequent use. Some smaller components may wear out more quickly, but timely repairs can help protect the overall system.
What warranties do you offer?
Texan Mechanical AC & Heating provides a 10-year manufacturer warranty and a one-year labor warranty on repairs. Our members receive an extended two-year warranty on repairs. According to industry standards, AC repairs typically take between one and eight hours, depending on the specific issue.
What financing options are available?
Texan Mechanical AC & Heating offers 0% financing options to our customers. For more detailed information about our heating and AC contracting services and financing options, please contact our office.
How often should I have my HVAC system serviced?
For optimal efficiency, we recommend servicing your HVAC system twice per year. We advise scheduling a cooling tune-up in spring before the summer heat arrives, and a heating tune-up in fall prior to the brief but unpredictable winters experienced in the Houston area.
Do I need a soft start kit?
If you own a standby or portable generator for emergencies, it's essential to install a soft start kit for your HVAC system. The surge of power generated during the HVAC system's startup can overload the generator, potentially causing it to shut down. This not only defeats the purpose of having a generator but can also lead to unnecessary disruptions during critical times.
Do you do inspections for real estate transactions?
Engaging a licensed HVAC company to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the equipment before purchasing your new home is crucial. Real estate inspectors are not certified technicians and can only identify issues based on visual assessments. Given that HVAC repairs can be some of the most expensive in your home, it's essential to understand the condition of the system before finalizing your purchase. We offer a thorough report complete with photos and recommendations, along with estimates for any suggested repairs.
Do you do inspections for foster homes?
Yes, we are fully equipped to conduct a comprehensive inspection of your heating and cooling systems as needed for foster care requirements.
What happens to my maintenance plan if I move?
Congratulations on your new home! We offer several options if you move during your maintenance agreement.
Transfer Your Plan - We're happy to transfer your active maintenance plan to your new address.
Gift Your Remaining Services - You can gift your remaining tune-up to the new residents of your current home. Your card on file will continue to be charged for the remaining balance until it is paid in full.
Refer Texan to the New Owner - We appreciate referrals! If you refer the new buyer to Texan Mechanical, we'll transfer the plan into their name, allowing them to take over the payments and enjoy the benefits and discounts.
Will my home warranty cover the repair?
Honestly, it's unlikely that you'll receive full coverage from them, if any at all. Home warranty companies are infamous for denying claims due to "lack of maintenance," even if your system was serviced just a month prior. It’s crucial to keep detailed records of all routine maintenance to even have your claim considered.
Once they do review your claim, they typically only cover a portion of the repair costs. As a result, out-of-pocket expenses for necessary components can accumulate quickly. While we don’t work directly with home warranty companies, we recommend inquiring about a buy-out option, particularly for equipment replacements.
What is an overflow switch?
The overflow switch is a device mounted on your system's drain pans to prevent condensation from overflowing onto the attic subfloor and your ceiling. If the pan starts to fill with water, the overflow switch activates and shuts down the system to prevent water damage in your home. This way, you’ll know there’s an issue when the system stops working, rather than discovering a flooded ceiling.
Why is there water leaking from my soffit?
This is your secondary drain line, which serves as an alert that something is amiss with your system. If you notice water leaking from this area, it indicates that your primary drain line is clogged and requires routine maintenance. Don’t ignore this warning; if the secondary line becomes clogged as well, it can lead to water backing up into your drain pan, posing a serious risk of flooding your home—particularly if you don’t have an overflow switch installed.
How can I protect my AC system from power surges?
We suggest installing surge protectors for both the condenser and furnace to shield the motors from unexpected surges. Even if you already have a whole-home surge protector, it's advisable to add specific protection for your HVAC equipment, particularly for multi-speed and variable speed systems.
What steps should I take if my system isn't working after a power surge?
Power surges are a frequent issue in our area. Even if your lights don’t flicker, your system may have experienced a brief disruption in energy. Compressors are built to delay their startup after a surge to protect themselves. To reset the compressor, turn the unit off for 15-20 minutes before turning it back on. If you don’t hear the compressor start or the unit remains inactive, please contact us. The surge may have caused damage to critical components.
Why is my outside unit cycling on and off?
This indicates that the unit may be low on refrigerant. We advise turning off the unit and contacting us for an evaluation to identify the issue.
Why is it so humid in my home?
Houston is a humid city, which is why we provide top-quality AC systems. These systems are designed to effectively remove humidity from your home while operating. If you're experiencing high humidity levels throughout your house, there may be an underlying issue. The unit could be low on refrigerant, it might not be running frequently enough to eliminate humidity, or there could be problems with insulation or poorly sealed ductwork. Ideally, indoor humidity levels should be between 55-65%.
My unit is blowing warm air. Do I just need some Freon?
If your unit is blowing warm air, several factors could be at play. However, you should never need to add refrigerant to a system. HVAC systems are sealed, pressurized systems, so if there’s a low refrigerant level, it indicates a leak that needs to be addressed.
We do not advise adding refrigerant when a leak is detected or if the system is low. Without knowing the extent of the leak, and considering the high cost of refrigerant, charging the unit could provide a temporary fix lasting anywhere from just a couple of days to several years. We recommend against risking your investment by wasting your hard-earned money.
Why is there ice on the system?
If you see ice forming on the lines coming from the condenser or on the equipment in the attic, it indicates that the system is freezing up due to insufficient refrigerant. It's advisable to turn the unit OFF and switch the fan to ON to facilitate defrosting, then give us a call! We will perform a leak check to identify the problem and present you with options to get your system operational again.
