Hector and Josh got here, gave me an overview of what was about to happen, how long it would take, and went strait to work. They worked through lunch and didn’t take breaks By 6PM my incredible new Trane XV18 was running like a top. My home’s never been more comfortable and I could not be more pleased.

I'm impressed by the professional service I received from the technician who came out today on behalf of Palmetto. Mr. Darlin was clear and helpful with the process. So I was told to have the app already downloaded and I did, but it was the wrong one. He was patient with me as I had to create another account on the right app. Thanks to Palmetto and Howell Chase for making this process smooth with their friendly service personnel.

This review relates to our most recent experience with Howell Chase. We have used them for years for our primary residence and maintenance of our rental properties with good to excellent results. For our most recent maintenance job on our primary residence, we were told that the reason our upstairs air conditioning system was not working was that the evaporator coil Was dead and needed to be replaced. The estimator told my husband that it was a straightforward job and wasn't difficult. We were advised when the part came in and requested an immediate appointment because the temperature upstairs was in the 90s. It was so hot that I was afraid a fire would start upstairs. Howell Chase had initially scheduled the installation for Monday morning, but as we complained about the ever-increasing temperature on friday, they gave us an early appointment on Saturday morning, for which we were very grateful. The primary person assigned to this 6-hour estimated job was acknowledged by Howell Chase to be a young Inexperienced Technician, which caused me concern. My concerns were somewhat allayed by the fact that he was accompanied by an older, presumably more experienced technician. They started the work at 7:30 in the morning, and by noon the older technician left, saying that he had another job to do. The younger technician worked until about 3:00 p.m. and then claimed that the system was working and Cooling properly. He advised that we Gradually lower the temperature 5 degrees at a time until the upstairs reached the desired temperature. I checked the temperature several times on Saturday and Sunday, discovering that each time the temperature was going up not down. I called Howell Chase on Sunday to complain. On Monday the same inexperienced technician came out to fix the problem. He quickly decided that he had incorrectly measured the amount of coolant that needed to be put back into the system after the evaporator coil installation. He said that draining some of the coolant would enable the system to function normally. After repeatedly going back and forth between the exterior unit and the system upstairs, he looked frustrated and exhausted but said that the system was working properly and had lowered the temperature by 2° in the period of time he had been at the house. When I subsequently checked the temperature, it had gone up by 2° from what he claimed it was reading, and after Another increase a few hours later, I called Howell Chase again. They were going to send the same or a similarly inexperienced technician back a third time that night at 9:00 p.m., but I declined and insisted that they send an experienced technician on Tuesday. They did, and that technician discovered that a connecting wire had been compromised and was signaling for heat on an ongoing basis. This is not something that an inexperienced technician would likely know to investigate, so I don't blame him. The Experienced technician was able to fix the problem quickly, and now the upstairs temperature is a very pleasant 78°, which is where the thermostat had been set. The repeated use of an inexperienced technician not only cost us time and usability of our house, but it also cost us in excessive electric fees. We received daily alerts from the electric company of excessive electricity use. The electric company estimated that in the 3 days involved with this problem, we had used an extra $180 in electricity. I blame the Howell Chase management for sending an inexperienced technician to do a major job without sufficient training to know to call for backup when he doesn't understand why a system is malfunctioning. It was clear to me that this technician was aware that our system was not functioning properly when he left on Monday, but he was exhausted and didn't know what else to do so told me that everything was fine and left.
