We were not informed of this constraint in our system before purchasing. There was a lot of confusion during installation. Even the techs were not knowledge as to how to set it up. Maybe they need more training? Our bills as of yet have not gone down. (It's pretty hard to tell without a deep dive into last year's weather for completely accurate info.) At this point, with the data we have, we essentially paid $3k+ extra for additional hassle during installation and no noticeable increase in efficiency.
