I have used Taconic in the past and had very positive experiences. However, they have been highly disappointing this time, so I would never use their services again or recommend them to anyone. My furnace started blowing cold air. Taconic came out to diagnose it and repair the issue if possible.
The technician told me that my high-limit switch was bad; mind you, I had this repaired by them two years prior. They also said my flame rollout switches (three of them) are bad as well. They claimed my furnace is old, so the high-limit switch keeps going out. I decided to get them repaired because it's 30 degrees out, and I have two small children. Mind you, they couldn't get those parts for three days. The technician wrote in the report that he temporarily fixed the furnace until they could get the parts.
The technician left without doing anything and lied on the service report. I called them, and they sent him back, and this time, he got it working for an hour, then back to cold air. Three days later, the technician with a helper returned with the parts and repaired the furnace. Six days later, the furnace is back to blowing cold air. Another technician returned and said the high limit, which was the problem, the one they had just installed. He also told me, as did the last technician, that I needed a new furnace. He got the furnace working for an hour, and then it returned to cold air.
I called Taconic, and they put me through to the service supervisor. Of course, it went to her voicemail. I left her a message explaining my frustration and how I felt I was scammed out of $444.34. Their technicians are supposed to be professionals. If I needed a new furnace, why did you sell me a service that they knew would not repair it? They should have refused to service it and told me it would be better to get a new furnace instead of taking my money and then telling me after they scammed me.
So I got a second opinion, and this guy was amazing. Within minutes, he found the issue: my furnace was not getting enough cold air circulating to it. The design of the air duct is old, and air was getting trapped instead of circulating through the zones. Also, my switchboard had a short in it, shutting off the high-limit switch and making the furnace think it was overheating, causing it to blow cold air. The guy made me a new airflow duct so that my furnace gets more cold air and a new switchboard. My furnace is now working and blowing strong heat. He also told me that I didn't need a new furnace and that Taconic was trying to get my money. Taconic emailed me, saying they did nothing wrong and to contact them back. They had the nerve to email me instead of calling me to resolve the issue. It's been over a week, and I still haven't received a phone call. I refused to reach out to them when they took my money and didn't fix the issue with my furnace or reimburse me for not fixing it. The repairs didn't last a week.
Please do not use this company unless you want to get scammed. And always get a second opinion.
