The purpose of this it to let the world know about the terrible experience my wife and I had with Hera Tech Inc., owned by Subash Rashat. Hera Tech Inc. is located at 1879 Old Cuthbert Rd. Suite 1, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034. We hired them to do a septic certification at the home we now own. Hera Tech Inc. sent a technician out to determine if the septic system was in satisfactory working condition. The technician arrived and located an inlet on a septic tank next to the house. His claim was that he could not find the cover to the septic tank because it was under a structure. Also, the technician could not locate the Distribution box or the drain fields. He also claimed that it appeared to be full, and that it needed to be pumped, so he could not certify the septic system. The fee for this service was $350.
After speaking to various septic companies on the phone I found out that an inlet always appears to have a high level, and that a septic system should not be pumped, as is cannot be empty to certify. In addition, I was told when a house has an unfinished basement you only have to follow the drainpipe to the wall and the septic system will be very close the other side of that wall.
We hired another Septic company to come out and provide a septic certification. This company located two septic tanks, the distribution box and 3 drain fields. There were no obstructions hiding the tanks. They certified the systems satisfactory.
I contacted Hera Tech Inc. to ask for a partial refund. It took two weeks to hear back from the owner. During one of my conversations with the owner, Subash Rashat, he agreed to refund the entire amount if another septic company certified the system. In a follow-up conversation he backed out of the agreement after I furnished proof of certification. My justification for a partial if not full refund is that they were unable to locate more than 75% of the entire septic system. I don’t feel a 30-minute walk around a property justifies a $350 charge. How can a septic system be evaluated if they were unable to locate it? Although it is unusual to have two working septic tanks, it should have increased the odds of them locating the components. The septic contractor the certified the system had no issues locating the two tanks, distribution box and the drain fields.
In summary, I feel that Hera Tech Inc., owned by Subash Rashat, is sending out under qualified technicians to preform septic certifications. Hera Tech Inc. does not take customer satisfaction seriously. We feel that they lack skill and integrity. We feel our money was stolen.
Frequently Asked Questions About Hera Environmental Laboratories
What is a septic system?
A septic system, often known as a sub-surface sewage disposal system, plays a crucial role in treating and disposing of household wastewater. At Hera Environmental Laboratories, we explain it as consisting of several key components: the septic (or treatment) tank, a distribution box, and the leach field, also referred to as the drainage area. This system also integrates a main sewer line connecting all plumbing fixtures directly to the septic tank, which in turn connects to the drainage field via a distribution box. Typically, the septic tank is installed about 10-20 feet away from the home. Its primary function is to effectively treat the wastewater generated by a household. With correct installation and maintenance, septic systems are both cost-efficient and as effective as municipal sewers.
What is radon, and where does it come from?
Radon is a radioactive gas that can significantly impact indoor air quality and health. Hera Environmental Laboratories explains that radon originates from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water, from which it moves into the air we breathe. This gas is invisible, odorless, and tasteless, making it undetectable without proper testing equipment. Whether it's seeping through cracks in your home’s foundation or being released from well water, understanding and mitigating radon is crucial for maintaining a healthy indoor environment.
Can radon affect me?
Yes, radon exposure poses a significant health risk. Hera Environmental Laboratories highlights that radon gas decays into radioactive particles that can be inhaled and trapped in your lungs, emitting radiation. This exposure is a leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. Continuous exposure to high levels of radon increases the risk of developing lung cancer, underscoring the importance of regular home radon testing.
How does radon get indoors?
Radon gas can enter buildings through openings where the building comes into contact with the ground. This includes cracks in floors or walls, gaps around service pipes, and any other space that offers direct access to the earth. Hera Environmental Laboratories points out that well water might also introduce radon into a home when used for showering, cooking, or drinking, releasing radon into the air you breathe.
What are safe radon levels?
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends action to reduce radon levels in homes that test at 4.0 pCi/L or higher. Hera Environmental Laboratories notes that in New Jersey, a significant percentage of homes test above this guideline, highlighting the importance of regular radon testing to ensure the safety and health of your home environment.
What is my township’s average radon concentration?
Understanding your township's average radon concentration can give you insight into potential risks in your area. Hera Environmental Laboratories suggests consulting specific resources or their expertise for detailed information about local radon levels, emphasizing the importance of individual home testing for accurate assessment.
What is mold?
Mold is a type of fungus that reproduces quickly, breaking down organic material in both indoor and outdoor environments. It thrives in moist conditions, leading to potential damage over time.
