Choosing to buy a newly built home was the hardest part—but once we did, we knew we made the right decision. From sales to the superintendent, the professionalism and care have been outstanding. McKelvey sets themselves apart with constant communication, quick responses—even on weekends—and a genuine commitment to doing things right. Superintendent Terry has been a true blessing. As a disabled veteran, I can’t always handle basic tasks, but he’s always there, treating my family with respect and compassion. It’s clear McKelvey truly honors our service, and for that, we’re incredibly grateful.

The entire team at McKelvey Homes is amazing to work with! I have had the opportunity to work with several of them now and visit and photograph multiple homes they have built and the attention to design and detail is incredible! Walking through them, one can really appreciate the spatial planning and architecture. The are built with the modern lifestyle in mind and there are so many options and customizations available! The homeowners I have met are over the moon with their new homes and the entire process, and it's amazing to walk through them!

This builder describes themselves as a custom home builder but is incapable of handling the construction of many outside-the-box home features or options. A few examples of their lack of attention to detail includes messing up the stonework on a custom fireplace, placement of a PVC pipe in the wrong place in the basement before pouring the concrete floor (despite correct location being reflected in the blueprints and doing a walkthrough with the plumbing contractor beforehand), installation of a exterior door in the wrong location (luckily we were able to catch this major error in time to have them move the door and adjacent windows to the correct location as shown in the blueprints), hammered holes through the OSB backing on each of the gable trusses in order to get chains through them to hoist into place using a crane (this left wide open, gaping holes that were simply covered over with a thin layer of vapor barrier before being covered with siding, allowing for a point of direct access in each gable for water, bugs, and animals). Further, we were shown paperwork during our closing that indicated a significantly higher number of overall square footage than the actual documented number of square feet. They made several major mistakes, wouldn't allow us to install certain custom options (they didn't have a contractor who offered these), and encouraged us to actually dig a three + foot deep new sump pit in the gravel in the basement to move it to the correct location. When questioning whether a broken, weight-bearing truss in the attic was architecturally sound, their solution was to nail a board to the side of it. The weight of winter snow on the roof brought concerns of a roof collapse every single year. After living in our home for several years, we kept finding more and more problems all the time, such as their failure to use any caulk around the windows (this would've cost pennies and taken a few extra seconds) resulting in water leaking every time it rained and later realizing that the upgraded two 100 gallon water heaters that we paid for are actually two 50 gallon heaters. If you don't have the time to be present on the construction site 100% of the time in order to observe, identify, and address every single mistake they make, be prepared to have many problems with your home in the long run. Building in an area that has any inclement weather will bring much anxiety. Overall we ended up with a mediocre, way overpriced house that remained below market value years later.
