I needed to upgrade the wiring and breakers from the panel in my garage to the cooktop in my kitchen. Modern cooktops require more amperage than older models. Nordeast Electric team won my business on price and reputation. Jake and his apprentice methodically and diligently completed the work with minimal cuts to the interior house. They cleaned up and ensured everything worked as expected.
One bonus of working with Nordeast is the trip charge for the initial estimate gets rolled into the final bill. I found this to be a differentiator among the several electricians who responded to my RFP and charged a fee for an estimate.

Very expensive compared to other local Electricians I reached out to. 3 other local electrician I had out give Free Estimates and charge about 50-% to 30% less the price for same work and offered better solutions for the location of new switches
Frequently Asked Questions About Nordeast Electric
What methods of payment do you accept?
Our preferred payment methods are checks and electronic funds transfers (EFT/ACH). We also accept cash and all major credit and debit cards. Please note that we do not accept Venmo, PayPal, Google Pay, or cryptocurrencies. For more information about our payment options, please contact our electrical contractors.
Are you licensed?
Yes, we are fully licensed. Our business holds a valid license to operate in Minnesota, and all our employees, except our bookkeeper, are licensed as either journeymen/workers or apprentices. If you need assistance from our licensed electricians, please don't hesitate to contact us.
My breaker keeps tripping. What's wrong?
Breaker tripping can occur due to various reasons, and troubleshooting is necessary to identify the specific cause. The issue could be with the circuit itself or the breaker. Breakers have a limited lifespan and may need replacement if they're failing. If there's a short in the circuit, our residential electricians can diagnose and fix the problem. Overloaded circuits, often caused by multiple high-amperage devices running simultaneously, can also trigger breaker trips. We can assist in splitting circuits and ensuring your home's electrical system is safe and code-compliant.
Why are my lights flickering?
Flickering lights can be caused by several factors, including loose or damaged connections, faulty wiring, or issues with the service panel. Older homes or those with DIY or unprofessional wiring installations may be particularly prone to this problem. Improper splices in homes with multiple generations of wiring can lead to flickering. Our experienced electricians can identify the root cause through thorough troubleshooting. We also offer electrical panel upgrade services if needed.
Where did the watts go on light bulbs?
Traditionally, light bulbs were measured in watts, which indicate power consumption. Higher wattage meant brighter light. However, with advancements in technology, modern light bulbs are significantly more energy-efficient. As a result, the focus has shifted to measuring light output in lumens rather than wattage. A higher lumen count indicates a brighter bulb. For convenience, most light bulb packaging now includes a watts-to-lumens conversion. If you need assistance with your lighting, our electrician service is available to help.
What are LEDs, and why should I have them?
LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. These bulbs are up to 80% more energy-efficient than incandescent bulbs, potentially reducing your monthly energy costs. LEDs remain cool to the touch, enhancing safety, and don't contain mercury vapor like compact fluorescents. While initially more expensive, LED prices have decreased significantly. They have a longer lifespan and are more environmentally friendly for disposal. As of August 1, 2023, the production and sale of incandescent bulbs have been discontinued in the United States. We can also retrofit your existing fluorescent fixtures to accommodate LED lamps. For more information about LED lighting options, please contact our electrical contractors.
What are Kelvins?
Kelvins (K) measure color temperature on a scale from 1,000 to 10,000. For residential lighting, the range typically falls between 2700K and 6500K. Lower Kelvin values produce warmer, more yellow light, while higher values result in cooler, bluer light. For a cozy atmosphere, consider 2700K-3000K. Kitchens and living areas often benefit from neutral lighting in the 3500K to 5000K range. Our licensed electricians can provide more detailed guidance on selecting the appropriate color temperature for your space.
What is a GFCI outlet?
A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlet is a safety device required in areas where water exposure is possible, such as kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and outdoor locations. GFCI outlets can quickly detect current changes and trip the circuit to prevent electrical shocks. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, approximately 400 electrical injuries result from high-voltage incidents annually. If you need assistance installing GFCI outlets, our residential electricians are available to help.
What is a dedicated circuit?
A dedicated circuit is an electrical circuit where a single breaker in the panel controls one specific outlet or appliance, with no other devices drawing power from that circuit. The National Electrical Code mandates dedicated circuits for certain appliances, such as electric ranges. In older homes with additions over time, it's not uncommon to find individual outlets on their own circuits. Microwaves are also frequently on dedicated circuits. Our team can assist with circuit-related issues and home EV charger installations.
How do I get started with an electrician?
To begin working with an electrician, consider the following steps: Verify the contractor's license through the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry website. Look for an 'EA' number for licensed electrical contractors. Ensure all electricians are licensed as journeyworkers or apprentices and carry their cards. Confirm the presence of a Master Electrician in the company. Check that the contractor is insured, as required by Minnesota law. Ensure they pull necessary permits. Verify the company's physical location. Ask for transparent pricing information. Trust your comfort level with the contractor and avoid pressure tactics. Review online reviews, but remember that larger companies aren't always better. Confirm the contractor's expertise matches your project needs. For reference, becoming a licensed journeyman electrician requires a minimum of 8,000 hours (about four years) as an apprentice before eligibility for the Class 'A' test.
