  I purchased 752 lineal feet (47- 16ft pcs) of 8" white pine shiplap from Hilltop through an advertisement I saw on Facebook marketplace. The ad said nothing about being "cabin grade seconds" as Shawn later put it. After going through all the boards and laying them out to stain I found approximately 7 out of the 40 pieces that look like they had some very bad rot to them and just would not stain up how I would like for my porch ceiling project. These boards didn't not resemble the same grading characteristics as the other 40 16ft pieces. So I called hilltop and spoke to Shawn what seemed like a friendly conversation asking if I could simply swap out the 7 bad boards for 7 new pieces that looked the same as the other 40 boards ended with Shawn becoming extremely rude and condescending. He told me he would send me a check back for the 7 boards instead of exchanging them because he no longer wished to do business with me, as if he thought he was punishing me for asking and I wouldnt be able to get material elsewhere. Or as he said, I can go to Home Depot and get the wood I need and pay double. I do not have extensive experience purchasing pine ship lap or any pine material therefor do not know what premium or cabin grade pricing is. I saw the advertisement with no mention of barn grade and simply bought it. I understand if that's what the material is and the pricing reflects it, but I was never made aware of that. If Shawn would have simply explained the miscommunication and offered some sort of resolution before becoming hostile and refusing to sell me any more products things would have gone much better. As a small business owner myself I was simply baffled with how he reacted to my simple request. I will never do business here again and will do my best to make people aware of their business practices

  This is a long overdue review. Much like other reviews, our experience in store was great, everyone was helpful and nice. We purchased thousands of dollars in flooring and other items. Over a month after receiving our flooring (and already installed half of it) I got TEXT messages from someone stating they were going to be coming to our house and taking the flooring back. Obviously, this was a shock, so I immediately called the company and stated that someone texted me saying they were going to come and take the flooring we purchased, back. The guy on the phone claimed that I didn't pay for my order, which is absolutely ridiculous. Obviously I paid in full before they DELIVERED THE FLOORING TO MY HOME OVER A MONTH PRIOR. He also said that he was the one who contacted me. He was rude and condescending right off the bat. I asked to speak to the manager, he said he was the owner. Even better. I was obviously upset, as i paid thousands for the flooring and extras over a month prior. To have someone text you and threaten to show up at your home and remove what you paid for is ridiculous. I explained that I absolutely did pay and they clearly had it wrong, I even offered the receipt and my bank statements to prove it. The phone call ended with them saying they would "investigate" and get back to me. Guess what? They never got back to me (obviously, because I paid), but before we got off the phone, they said they would no longer do business with me (as if I would want to after this experience?). They also never followed up to apologize for their mistake and their poor communication in handling the whole thing. The wood may be cheap, and there's a reason, its crap wood, and the service is terrible once you've made the purchase

  Really didn't want to write this bad review, but I guess I don't have much of a choice except to tell my experience so others can be aware. We absolutely loved this company when we met them at the home and garden show in Cincinnati. They were perfect! Amazing flooring displays, wonderful sales people. Even the contractor, Mike was great when we met him at the show. That's about where it ended. We requested a measurement of our home so we could get a more accurate quote for the flooring type we chose. Some things happened on the day of the measurement, but Mike did a great job at rescheduling. He eventually came out, measured on a Tuesday and told me I'd have the quote by that Wednesday or Thursday. Friday morning, I texted Mike to see if the quote was ready. No response. Texted again on Monday, and was told the quote was. Going out that day. Wednesday rolls around again and still no quote. So, we call the office. The office informs us that Mike apparently says our living conditions are "deplorable" and that he was ready to "pass out at any second" and that he "couldn't wait to get out of there". No mention of this from Mike that day...or the next few days...or on the Monday he said the quotes were going out...or even a week later. Nothing at all. In fact, Mike couldn't even be bothered to tell us his opinion himself. Very "professional". Should I mention that we've have 5 other companies (1 flooring and multiple other job quotes for other projects) come in that very same week, and yet, nothing was said then? I told him (and the staff at the home and garden show) that we own and operate a nonprofit special needs animal rescue, and that is one of the reasons we wanted better floors. Does our house smell like animals? Yes. But it's FAR from "deplorable". Sorry, but I can't recommend a company who talks a good job, but can't follow through. I can't recommend a company who can't be honest with their customers. I can't recommend a company where their contractors can't be adult enough to talk to me directly. I can't and won't recommend this company. **Update - "Being inside the home would make most people violently ill"... considering you are the only company/people EVER to try and claim this, we'll just chalk it up to Mike being unprofessional. As for Sean, you're stating these things as fact, like you've ever set foot in our home, which you have not. Good luck with your business in the future. You'll need it treating people this way.

  Sean is so nice, very good quality wood. We bought knotty pine tongue and groove. Super easy to talk with. Definitely will be going back.
