Two years ago I signed a contract to have a new home built. As part of that process, in January of 2022, I met with the cabinet company (Andy's Cabinets and Millwork in Tallahassee, Florida) to layout what I wanted. Seven months later I was told that even though I had finalized color selection seven months earlier, the cabinets would be not be going in as scheduled (August 2022), unless I ageed to change the color of my bathroom cabinets because the color I had originally chosen was special order and, if I insisted on keeping my original choice, I would not be able to move in until mid October. So, in the interest of expediting the process I compromised my design. In mid October 2022, I still did not have ANY cabinets in the new house and that lack was causing further delays in the house getting done. In late November the cabinets were mostly in and the appliances were being installed. It was immediately apparent that there were major problems with almost all the cabinets in the house, but that the kitchen was an unbelievable disaster. The backsplash had huge holes cut in it. There were screws and bolts visible everywhere. Drawers and doors did not line up properly. The opening for the cooktop was too large and it would not sit in place properly. The island counter was warped, as was the bar top. I cried when I saw it. We were scheduled to move in at the end of the year. A feeble effort was made by Andy's to fix problems, but things only got worse. We finally had to move in January even though the cabinets were a disaster. Andy's kept making promises to get things right, but nothing happened. Two months after we moved in, Andy's finally sent out a couple of men to start fixing things. They would show up one day, then I wouldn't see or hear from them for a week or more. Then they would spend another day or two fixing and replacing things, but then there another delay. I kept getting excuses as to why this wasn't getting done. In early May, I was told by the project manager that the boss (Andy) told him not to do any work on the project for at least six weeks. Even though I screamed and hollered, nothing more got done. I would call and did not get a call back. I had my contractor call and he kept making excuses for Andy's. Finally in July, I was told that Andy himself would be coming out to look at the problems. But he didn't come, more excuses, he sent the project manager instead. The project manager looked at the situation, apologized to me, and said he didn't know how it was going to get fixed, but he would make it happen. Two weeks later, two more men from Andy's came out, but not to fix things. Instead they were there to figure out HOW to fix things. One of those men was Jesse. Jesse took one look at the cabinets and said it would be easier to tear out the whole thing and start from scratch. However, he very carefully looked every thing over, made copious notes, and promised me that he was going to make sure I got the cabinets I had paid for. Then, I heard nothing from any of them for over a month. I kept calling with no results and my contactor did the same - more excuses. Finally in late September, Jesse and David came and started to make things right. It took them six weeks to get it fixed. They couldn't come every day because they had to rebuild several of the cabinets and countertops in between installation trips. But as of November 6, my kitchen is finished and just as beautiful as I imagined. However, if I had to do it again, I absolutely would not use Andy's Cabinets and Millworks unless I was guaranteed that Jesse and David were the only employees allowed to work on my job.
