Felt like a bait and switch to me.
I called AAA Modern Air yesterday to get pricing on servicing my 85 y/o mother’s AC system. I told Michelle (I believe that was her name) that moms ac system needs to be serviced with Freon every year and only wants it serviced (topped off) with Freon. Michelle told me there is an $85 evacuation fee (deducted if work is done), and a price of $129 per first pound and $99 for each additional pound of Freon.
The service technician, Andrew, came today and was aware the unit was low on Freon when he arrived and that we only wanted it serviced. He connected his gauges to confirm it was low on Freon and he said it would take 120 oz (7.5 lbs) of Freon, and at a rate of $220 first pound and $129 each additional pound. I said we’re looking at it almost $1000. I let him know that yesterday Michelle quoted me $129 and $99. I then asked what the total cost “would be, and he said it might take 4 to 5 pounds, maybe four, or more or less”. You don’t call his manager about the pricing. And he said that he would charge what Michelle quoted.
I called my mother and she said that was more than she could afford. Andrew charged me $85…to let me know the AC unit was low on Freon, which we knew all along, and he left.
I called AAA Modern Air and Michelle connected me to a “manager”, I forget his name. He gave a convoluted excuse about honoring contract pricing, and then hung up on me.
Luckily, I was here to help my 85-year-old mother in dealing with them. I’m sure she would be paying almost $1000 today for something that should be less than half this price.
Either there is very poor communication between their front desk, technicians and managers on pricing or their pricing changes once they arrive to your house.
