Established in 1985 as Carpet N Things, FLOORMAX has grown to be the largest independent flooring retailer in the DC Metro area. The name was changed from Carpet N Things to FLOORMAX in 2009 to reflect the growing demand for hard surface products like wood, bamboo, cork, laminate, ceramic and luxury vinyl. FLOORMAX is proud to be a part of the DC community and remains a locally-owned and operated family business to this day.
“When we founded the business in 1985,” according to Rafi Ansari, founder and President of FLOORMAX, “we made a conscious effort not be like the other flooring and carpet retailers in the market. Back then, and even to this day, all of us try to live by The FLOORMAX Difference.”

But after talking with Janet, our unease was reduced to nothing. She really listened to our needs and came up with brilliant ideas. Although our mind changed on a couple of things, it didn’t stop her unwavering support. I would most definitely shop here again when and if the need arises. I have even told others about Flooring Superstores and recommended them .

- LHL HHSep 22, 20251.0Honestly, I didn’t have a great experience here. There was an older man and two ladies at the desk when I came in. The first thing I did when I walked in was ask where the LVP was and I just got ushered to keep moving backwards until I was in the general vicinity. No one cared to physically get up. It was really poor customer service. I came in with a really good idea of the look I was wanting for my floor and it was a bit inconvenient having to sort through the inventory myself and I occasionally crossed over into unwanted mixed in laminates. I was never checked in on the whole duration I was in the store. I personally feel when someone is entering a flooring store they aren’t typically looking at flooring for fun. It’s because they have money and are ready to spend it on something they are wanting. The one positive was that they had some nice product and I found an LVP I loved and was able to search google and found the same product for cheaper at “Floors on Crowfoot” where they have kindly helped me.
