That said, on closing day while I was signing documents, I casually mentioned that people don’t pay property tax in China. An old lady in the office immediately gave me a sarcastic look and said, “Would you rather live THERE?” I didn’t respond or feel like to educate her because she’s old and probably spent her whole life under propaganda. So, solid service overall, I’d work with them again, but hopefully next time without the unsolicited political commentary. And yes, in China, you can own property and pay 0 property tax. “But it’s a 70-year land ownership!” True but when it expires the law says it renews automatically. In practice, some cities have charged around 1% of the property value to renew for another 70 years. China hasn’t reached the point where large numbers of residential land use rights have expired yet so you can say whatever you like for now. Thanks for reading this far, and you’re welcome.
