Equitable began its services in 1859. A new york reputation throughout. It's services includes life insurance, work place retirement plans like 457 ,s 401 k s and 403 (b) by 1991 equitable merged with AXA group located in France. And it's been a success by 1997 equitable was the leader in its field. That's when my experience with them began. My employer had a retirement plan company that I did not join yet and was encouraged to join equitable by fellow employees. Good choice while I have a additional plan I remain with equitable. I still get updates and it's been at least 15 years since I used the plan . 2019 AXA equitable became just equitable holdings.

Do not put your money with this company. I am trying to move my money out of a“structured product,” that no one disclosed would involve exorbitant fees to close (that is, over $10k in fees). Their “financial professionals” do not disclose the nature and cost of these products, and all their fees are completely nontransparent. Even when you ask point blank they wont tell you the fees and tap dance around it. You also cannot get any customer service (just have fun and try navigating their website to find a phone number or a form that will actually work; you wont find either). The worst type of shitty financial institution. Stay away.

This company is the worst. They make you jump through hoops to get any sort of payment that I should be entitled to. I had a heart attack with no insurance, they hold out on the remaining payments until they verify your condition with your physician which is difficult when you don’t have insurance and with no money how would I be able to continue seeing a doctor? Meanwhile I have to empty my 401k just to get by and deal with the penalties at tax time. Douglas Justus and Una Markure were not helpful in getting me taken care of. I owed the government money after my 401k penalty. If your company uses Equitable, do yourself a favor and maybe hire an attorney to get you situated

This company is evil. They sent a letter that they were going to change my elderly mothers retirement product to an arrangement where they would pay her fixed amounts (of her money) but if she didn't get the full account value before passing away, they would keep the funds. And the method they employed was predatory, the product change was automatic unless we filed (in paper) to opt out. Pure evil. What if this was lost in the mail or we assumed it was an account statement! It makes me sick to think how many retirees they may have bilked! Naturally, trust was broken and we resolved to roll her funds over into a more reputable financial company. Unfortunately, because of their contrived process we had to try three times over a year and change! The process starts online where you have to download a "customized" form which is barely customized. They you have to fill out a complex form and contact a plan administrator to get your money out. It's complex and it should be more online and integrated that this. But I think that's the point! They want to keep your money and try to steal it every once in a while. I reached out to the BBB once and that still didn't change anything. These people are serious about keeping retiree money. Finally on the third attempt, we were successful. It was anxiety provoking and time consuming. From the first attempt to the final attempt it was over a year. Somehow they get to set up the process and they chose to purposely make it difficult so they can keep your money. My recommendation is to completely avoid this company.

Everything said in these reviews has been my experience, too. Mixed information, a waste of time agent who doesn't call back. Finally requested my share of account, said check was mailed but still waiting. I actually had to call to verify they'd processed my request. Seems a "big" company would have better followup and follow through. If your $ is here start stocking up on kleenex- and anxiety meds you're going to need 'em.
