As you know closing on a home purchase for a new home or an investment can be stressful. In all actuality we have been through this process enough that we were not really stressed other then the need to get back to work. We did have some issues with the loan manager who seemed to be new which meant we had to be on top of her with corrections. However it was the experience at title security that was the worst issue we had. We arrived to be met by an older woman who I believe called herself "Franny". Franny couldn't share a smile if it was painted on her. We were the first customers of the day so she should have enough energy to at least be kind. Her manner of communication exuded the energy that we were a bother. Her motions were that of a petulant teen. Each sheet we were given was done so with disdain an d flippant attitude. We get to the closing document, and it turns out that the amount required for closing was off by approximately $2500. It really isn't the amount that is the issue, it is the way she handled herself during this frustrating moment. Initially, she had an attitude of "well it's not my fault" she repeatedly stated " I have decades of being an escrow officer" (I should have known from the first proclamation that this wasn't going to go well. My experience is that someone who has to proclaim their title repeatedly is usually not good at their job). It was evident that she had no intention of making any calls to help rectify the issue at which point my husband and I are furious with the loan manager. My husband calls the loan manager who is surprised by the problem. Meanwhile Franny, finally decided to look through more documents to find a second statement that is different from the one she originally gave us. She proceeded to tick off the columns looking for the discrepancy. I think she did this only to appear that she was able to use her decades of experience as this action really had no value towards resolution. She also became defensive asking us to not blame her as she motioned her poorly done acrylics across her chest. At that point we weren't even speaking with her as she vehemently stated she had 18 more closings to complete for the day and that she surely had no time on her schedule to finalize the closing. But it was all about Francis and not the customer. In the interim we tell our loan manager to cancel our second purchase process. In the end it was actually Title Security that made the changes to the document. It was not the loan managers fault. Why would a title company make changes to documents sent over by the funding company? Since I am not in the title business this makes me wonder if there are shinanigans going on. As we were lead out Franny never apologized and gave us a good riddance type of send off. Either title security is a business that does not care about the quality of work they turn out or the customer service they provide or they just need warm bodies like Franny to notarize papers during the refi crisis. Needless to say our trust with title security will garner them no further business from us.
I do want to add that our real estate agent Casey Hogan of Realty Executives was the one that kept us reassured. He exhibited true leadership with a kind heart. If it were not for him the attempt title made to close that same day via a notary would have resulted in another debacle. The notary was given the same incorrect documents that Franny had. Fortunately, Casey had sent us the correct documents that we were able to print to complete the process. Thank you Casey Hogan.
