Employee tried to scam me out of $400 more than my original booking price. I told him about 50 times I didn't want any changes to my original reservation (through Expedia), but still ended up paying $400 on top of the $213 reservation I had through Expedia. This was not a hold, despite what the lying employee told me - it was fully posted to my account.
To me, it looks like he tried to get away with doing a full, new booking so that he could get some sort of commission out of it, with the plan to cancel my Expedia reservation so only the larger charge would remain (but it would *look* like I only got the single charge). Unfortunately I really do not like liars, and I like thieves even less. I called Expedia and relayed to them the information the employee had given me. Expedia confirmed that what I was told was an absolute lie, confirming that they forward reservation funds to the rental company after the booking is made (in other words, there should be NO additional charges at pickup unless you change your reservation at the counter, which I explicitly stated I did not want to do). The Expedia rep called the branch and spoke with someone there who told him that the entire new charge will be refunded from my card when I return the car on Sunday.
So, I am currently in communication with the branch manager, Expedia, and next will be contacting the police unless they do exactly what I was told they would, and reverse the massive overcharge that was placed on my card after their employee tried to use exploitative and deceptive tactics to earn more money.
Don't trust these people, and make sure that if you book through a third party service and are just picking up here, you call ahead and confirm that there should be no additional charge at pickup, unless you actively make the choice to change your reservation at that time. Some folks are saying that there can be additional holds of ~$200 to protect the business until the car is returned at the end of the reservation, and that's fine if it's true, but that is absolutely not what happened in my case. I hope this review deters anyone from renting at this location.

BEWARE: Sixt Tries to SCAM Me Out of $1400 for Bogus Damage! AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
This is not a review; it is a warning. DO NOT rent from Sixt if you want to avoid a potential nightmare. I was given a vehicle at the Washington Dulles (IAD) location that a representative falsely claimed was in "perfect/new" condition, only for them to hit me with a $1400 damage claim days later for a superficial scuff visible only under specific lighting.
The car I received was disgusting and clearly not new. It had cigarette burn marks on the center console, interior dirt/bodily fluids I believe, and multiple pre-existing exterior blemishes which I thoroughly documented with time-stamped photos and video before even leaving the lot. My evidence stands in stark contrast to their poorly documented claim photos.
Furthermore, I returned the vehicle and personally handed the keys to a Sixt representative for inspection and spoke to her about the annotated issues I had during pick up as well as what I submitted to the QR code about the issues with evidence, even before leaving the lot one of the employees apologized and stated to submit everything through the initial pick up QR code once again and it would be “noted”. Nothing was noted, stated, or viewed as damaged at that time. It wasn't until THREE DAYS LATER that I received a claim, supposedly based on a "drive by camera" inspection. This is a common, predatory tactic I have since learned Sixt is notorious for, having faced multiple lawsuits regarding these exact types of fraudulent damage claims.
They are trying to scam me. I have provided all my proof and in the pursuit of a legal claim. Save yourself the stress and money. Use another rental company. ZERO STARS. It’s unfathomable as a military service member having to deal with this while traveling from an overseas duty station to visit your loved ones on short time and deal with this. Sixt company is a disgrace!!!!

I completely agree with many people who have posted their reviews, calling SIXT a scam and fraudulent, as it also happened to me lately. I rented a car with hair-thin scratches that I did not cause (these scratches were hardly visible to the naked eye), but they sent me a bill of over $ 2,700. Please be aware of this SIXT rental company; they will extort money from customers by fraudulently blaming them for scratches. If you want peace of mind, DO NOT rent from them.
I’ve had two rentals so far with SIXT at Dulles Airport (IAD), and both experiences were absolutely amazing!
My first rental was on August 27, 2025, and it was my very first time booking with SIXT. I had originally scheduled my pickup for 5:30 PM but called to see if I could move it up to 4:30 PM and they made it happen with no problem at all. When I arrived, I was greeted by Senetra, who made the whole process smooth, friendly, and fast. She answered all my questions patiently and had me on my way in under 10 minutes with the keys to a brand-new 2026 BMW X1 (only 5 miles on it!).
The car itself was a dream to drive, powerful, fuel-efficient, and incredibly fun to drive. I averaged 35.2 MPG on the highway on cruise, which is amazing for an SUV. That first rental completely changed how I look at BMW's and SIXT became my go-to rental company from that moment on.
My second rental was on October 9, 2025, and even though the branch was packed that evening, I got lucky again, Senetra was the one who helped me! Despite the busy rush, she greeted me warmly, and surprised me by upgrading my midsize SUV reservation to a premium 2025 Volvo XC60 after my conversation about how she helped me on my first rental with SIXT. That small gesture meant a lot, it showed she genuinely cares about her clients.
The Volvo was elegant, comfortable, and effortless to drive. I especially loved the cruise control that adjusts by 5 mph, such a simple but thoughtful feature for highway driving. I averaged 32.6 MPG on the highway on cruise, which is amazing. It’s now my second favorite car, right after the BMW X1!
What I really appreciate about SIXT is their mix of great hospitality and a diverse fleet from economical cars to premium and luxury options. Every visit feels professional yet personal, and that’s rare these days.
Huge thanks to Senetra and the IAD team for making both my experiences memorable during pick up and drop off. I already have my third rental booked for November 20, 2025, and I’m genuinely looking forward to it. SIXT has earned a loyal client for life!
READ BEFORE RENTING I rented a car here and when i returned it they billed me for damage i did not do. The damage was so small i would not have caught it even if i took pictures. When i looked this up online i found thousands of people with the same issue with them, multiple major news exposes (fox news) on sixt making fraudulent damage claims against customers. They also recently settled an 11 million dollar class action lawsuit for exactly this! And they are still doing it!! I cant stand companies who scam customers. I will be filing with the bbb and my local attorney general. BEWARE
