I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration regarding an incident that occurred at your Pentagon City location on Friday, December 19. What should have been a joyful day of holiday shopping turned into one of the most upsetting experiences I have ever had as a Costco member.
After my doctor’s appointment, I decided to stop by Costco to finish my Christmas shopping. When I entered the parking garage, I noticed a couple walking toward a red truck. The gentleman unlocked the vehicle, and I immediately signaled to indicate I intended to park in that space. Moments later, the car in front of me turned on its hazard lights.
When the S&P Plus parking attendant approached, he went to the other driver first. She claimed she was going to back into the space—something she could not have seen, as she was fully inside the garage when the couple arrived. I tried to explain this, but the attendant dismissed me, saying, “I don’t know, so no one gets the spot,” and then proceeded to block my car and allow the other driver to park there.
When I asked for his supervisor, he ignored me and said, “You are mad, huh?” I left the garage and pulled over near the apartment complex to find out how to file a complaint. At that point, the attendant threatened to have my car towed. When I went inside to speak with someone, he followed me, saying, “Go up there, I am the supervisor—you can complain to me. I’m still having your car towed.”
When I returned, my car had indeed been towed. The attendant then said, “I bet you mad now.” His behavior was rude, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional. Later, I spoke with a manager named Yemi Adetola, who apologized and said he would call the attendant. However, when he called back, he was unapologetic and claimed the tow was requested by an Instacart driver, which was clearly false. The tow form stated the request came from Costco, which is the S&P Plus attendant, and the tow company confirmed that an attendant pointed out my car.
While I am not angry about the tow itself, I am deeply upset about being targeted, humiliated, and having my holiday spirit ruined. This experience has left me with a very negative impression of Costco parking attendant choice. I have not returned since that day and am seriously reconsidering my membership.
To make matters worse, a woman at the downstairs desk told me she knew exactly who I was complaining about and that I was not the first—this attendant has a reputation for being rude and nasty to customers. As long as he remains employed at this location, neither I nor my family will shop there.
I hope Costco and S&P Parking takes this matter seriously. No customer should ever be treated this way. Please let me know what steps will be taken to address this situation.
Sincerely,
