I told the mechanic that I needed him to confirm if the engine was leaking before I made the purchase. He agreed, asked me to open the hood, and then pulled out the oil dipstick to check the oil level. He told me the engine had no leak and assured me the car was fine. I knew that wasn’t the proper way to inspect for leaks, so I took the car to another mechanic shop. They performed a thorough inspection and discovered a major oil leak at the back of the engine. I’m glad I went for a second opinion—if I had trusted that careless check at Jiffy Lube, I would have ended up buying a car that would cost me a lot in repairs in the near future.
