The staff member I spoke with told me over the phone that they were not currently taking on any audio installation work, stating that they were focusing on other services right now. Shortly after my denial, I was present with another individual—a white male—when he called the same shop asking for the exact same audio service. I clearly overheard the entire conversation. The staff member, who minutes earlier told me the shop wasn't doing audio work, immediately engaged this other person, offered him an appointment the following week, and scheduled the service without any hesitation. The contrast in treatment was immediate, glaring, and deeply disturbing. Based on the observation of this interaction, I firmly believe I was denied service based on my race. This is not just poor customer service; it is blatant, unacceptable discrimination. I advise anyone concerned with equitable and ethical ethical business practices to take their money elsewhere.
