The shop that I took my car to was nice enough. I had to leave my car for 8 hours and when i went to pick it up they informed me that it was missing a wire and I would need to come back the next day. I returned the next day and was told they finally had it installed, however later when i went to the store my car started without me having to blow into the intoxalock. Upon realizing this I parked my car because I did not want it to look as though I had tampered with the device.I am having to take my car back for the third time to get this fixed which means I will be without a vehicle all day.At this rate I definitely would not recommend neither the shop or intoxalock because with the service i have gotten I could very well end up in a violation and it not even be my fault. I cannot get my restricted license until this device is fixed and fixed correctly. So long story short not a happy individual at all. Edit: Everything has been going very well. Although things started out rough the shop has went out of its way to ensure that all is as it should be. The Intoxalock has gotten better as well. Took me a few days to get use to the blowing part of it but once that was achieved I’ve had no issues.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
