I’ll start by saying that I’m a woman who has very little knowledge about cars, and ended up being taken complete advantage of here. I am new and close by to the area and saw they had pretty good reviews, so brought my 2000 E350 van to this shop to have them look into an issue where it had started lightly vibrating when accelerating.
They told me it would be $150 to do some more in-depth testing, I said okay and waited to hear back. Later that afternoon the service advisor calls me back with quotes on nearly $4000 of work they are saying needs to be done - about half for some rear brake work, and the other half for spark plugs and ignition coils (the cause of the vibrating issue).
Nearly having a heart attack, I tried to ask some questions admitting that I really didn’t know much about cars, and he just kept rushing through what was listed on the quote, not really explaining anything. I had been considering selling the van anyways, and asked if there was someone I could just talk through this with, how severe the issues were etc, just to get a better understanding of it all. His response was that he could “put something into ChatGPT because it can dumb it down for people who don’t know much about cars.” I will never forget it. Stunned in the moment, I politely laughed, asked how much my bill would be if I didn’t have the work done, just pick it back up as-is, and he said I was at $400. Told him I’d call him back shortly, I just needed a little time to think about it.
A few minutes after we hang up he calls me back, says he looked at the numbers wrong and that I was actually at $1400!!! I never approved that price, was totally confused about what was going on, but clearly wasn’t going to get any clarification from him based on how he had been speaking to me up to this point. I asked to clarify - I could either pay $1400 to pick it up as-is with no repairs having been done, or pay $2000 to have it repaired. He said “yup, you’d only be saving on parts at this point.” I didn’t know what else to do, this is my only car so I needed the issue fixed and at this point to take it somewhere else I’d end up spending even more, so I told him to go ahead with the spark plugs and ignition coils and that I would pass on the brake work bc I’d need to save up more money for it.
Fast forward a few months and the brakes have started chirping, was sharing this experience with some coworkers bc I was dreading spending about $2k on brake work (not that I was planning on bringing it back here, I already had a bad taste about this shop just from the customer service experience). One of the guys thought that price sounded absurd, then thought maybe they were drum brakes which made the price so high, but said he could take a peek real quick. They are disc brakes, so he said those are really easy to fix, and that I should go to his shop bc they have always been really honest with him and he had a strong hunch C&C was trying to screw me over. Took my van over to his recommended shop in Benson this past week - not only did they fix all the brake issues, but also noticed a part that had rusted so bad on the brake hose that it could have been a major safety issue (C&C did not find this) and even with that repaired too, my total was only $885!!! I told them about my experience with the spark plugs and ignition coils here, he looked up the parts and said that job shouldn’t have been more than $1k.
I really never leave reviews online, but so many people have urged me to bc if they have done this to me, they are definitely doing it to others. All I can say is, especially if you are a woman, don’t just walk away from this place - RUN.
