September 30th, Chase sold me a 2019 F150 5.0.
October 27th, I scheduled an appointment with Fountain Transmission of Iowa City to address a Torque Converter shudder accompanied by rough shifting. They recommended a fluid change to see if the issue goes away without having to dig into the transmission. I elected to change all drivetrain fluids- Transmission, Transfer Case and both front and rear Differentials. Issue went away.
November 25th, I scheduled another appointment with Fountain Transmission because the rough shifting had come back. My transmission blew up before my appointment date and had to get it towed there. They diagnosed a failed CDF Drum and Reluctor Wheel that required a total transmission replacement. When I asked them if that failure occurred within the 2,000 miles I owned it, they believed it had been failing for much longer than that. So, their service techs completely failed to find the second largest mechanical issue that a vehicle could have during their trade-in inspection; or they knew about it and hid it long enough to pass the problem on to somebody through a sale.
When I let Chase know what happened, he said he would let his GM Jay Irwin know. 3 days later- no call, text or email. When I reached out again- no answer and no callback. The next day, I called the store and asked for Jay directly. He knew who I was as soon as he heard my name and knew what I was calling about, but apparently was not able to reach out to me at any point.
He offered a transmission replacement at cost, no markup, but would not take a financial hit because I did not buy a warranty that would have increased my monthly payments by 50%. So their proud company mission statement regarding “customer service” “integrity” “honesty” “accountability” “professionalism” doesn’t actually apply to anything that they have to stick their neck out for.
I asked Jay for an ETA on my truck on a Friday afternoon and was told he would find out first thing Monday morning what it would be and never heard back from him, or anyone, for that matter. The only time I heard back from anyone was when my truck was actually done and to discuss payment and pick up.
The only apology I ever got from anyone was from the lady at the service desk after she found out that I was paying a $6,485 bill for a truck I bought from them 2,000 miles ago- not to mention the $700 I paid to have all the fluids changed during my first service appointment back in early November. Then again, an apology would indicate fault and they didn’t want to do that.
Don’t trust anyone at this dealership any further than you can throw them.
