I stopped here one time, and no one was around to help me/get me through the wash, so I had to turn around and leave. I couldn't just pull in and get a wash without someone being there. I don't live here in Johnston; I just want a car wash now and then. After the reviews though, I can't imagine having to listen to a sales pitch, politely say no and then potentially hear it again just to wash my car. I'll just head to the simple automated wash down the road, where, like most of us prefer, I don't have to talk to anyone.
came in weds and the guy "taking care of me" wouldn't let me just get a car wash without shoving his membership down my throat. I told him 4 times I wasn't interested before saying "i'm literally not interested!" I almost asked to just be let out of line. I'm not coming back here again. You should have a pitch that says you can save x by doing this and that's it, not a 10 minute interaction of saying no on repeat while cars line up behind you. No one wants this.

Trying to simply wash your car seems to be impossible at this location.
Attempted to have a 1-time $12.99 wash on a nice day only to be berated over and over by Michael at the pay stand. Refused to take no thank you, the $12.99 will work for my vehicle today.
Incredible that the site would prefer to lose a sale before I finally just asked to have the gate lifted and I’d leave.
I will not be back to this site or any Rocket Wash. Plenty of other wash options in the Des Moines metro.

I really hope people look at these 1 star reviews people are giving before they go here because I wish I would’ve. I had this same thing happen to me on 12/31/25. I went to the car wash just to get a simple $12.99 car wash to wash some winter dirt off my SUV and vacuum a little. The man that helped me would not let me get the wash. (Wish I would’ve gotten his name) He told me over and over he had to go through his speech about the membership. Then when he would stop and ask why I feel like I didn’t need the membership, I’d say because I just want a $12.99 wash today and then he would repeat everything again and again and I would say no thank you over and over. After a few minutes, I told him he was taking this way too far (had about 4/5 cars behind me waiting at this point) and I just want the 1 wash, but no he’d just start repeating everything all over again while looking at me like I was an idiot. I could tell by this point, he wasn’t going to let me in without getting a membership. I finally said, I’m done how do I get out of here so I can go to a different car wash. He had no problem hitting the button to open the arm and telling me which way to go to get out. Who runs this business? It’s a car wash and no where does it say memberships only on it. There is individual pricing for single car washes, but yet they don’t allow you to get one. It’s the craziest experience I’ve ever had and it’s definitely the last time I go to one of these rocket car washes. (My husband has the monthly car wash package for his car and I told him to cancel it after this experience because I don’t want them to have a dollar of our money). Absolutely ridiculous.
Nothing wrong with the car wash itself. The aggressive sales pitching made me uncomfortable and never want to come back. Interactions between employees and customers shouldn't feel like unstoppable cutscenes in a videogame. I just want a service, man. I get employees having to offer upgrades and memberships, but when you force them to be so pushy it loses a lot of repeat customers. If the only way you get money is by bullying people into becoming members, then you're not confident in the service you provide.
