Read this before buying a car here
My experience with Northridge Toyota was frustrating, misleading, and unprofessional at every stage, and I want others to know exactly what they may be walking into.
🚩 Misrepresentation of the vehicle’s condition
I purchased a used Toyota 4Runner through Zayn (salesperson). Before finalizing the purchase, I specifically asked whether the vehicle had been inspected and whether everything was functioning properly. I received email confirmation stating that the car had been checked and that everything was functioning as it should.
That statement turned out to be false.
After taking delivery of the vehicle, I discovered that the backup camera does not function at all. This is not a cosmetic or minor issue — it is a critical safety feature and part of a federally required safety system on modern vehicles. Being told in writing that everything works, only to find out after the sale that a required safety feature doesn’t function, raises serious concerns about the honesty and thoroughness of their inspection process.
⏰ Pickup day was a mess despite weeks of notice
Northridge Toyota knew weeks in advance that I was picking up the vehicle on January 6. I also called ahead the day of pickup to confirm. All paperwork had already been completed.
Despite all of that, I was forced to wait over three hours at the dealership.
What made this worse was watching other customers who arrived after me being helped while I continued to sit there with no meaningful updates. It was very clear that once the paperwork was signed, my time no longer mattered.
❌ Rude and dismissive finance staff
When I expressed frustration about the excessive delay, the finance managers were rude and dismissive, telling me I needed to “sit down and wait” because “buying a car is a long process.”
That response is unacceptable when:
• the pickup date was known weeks in advance,
• I called ahead,
• and all paperwork was already complete.
Being spoken to that way after waiting hours felt disrespectful and unprofessional.
📵 No accountability after the sale
After discovering the backup camera issue, I attempted multiple times to contact the dealership to have it addressed. Each time I was told the same thing:
• “The manager is busy”
• “They’ll call you back”
They never did.
No follow-up. No urgency. Just excuses and silence. This pattern makes it very clear that once the sale is complete, accountability disappears — even when the issue involves a safety feature that should have been caught or disclosed before selling the vehicle.
⚠️ Final takeaway
This wasn’t a one-off mistake — it was a pattern of behavior:
• Written confirmation that the vehicle was inspected and functioning
• A non-functioning backup camera discovered after purchase
• A 3+ hour pickup delay despite weeks of notice and completed paperwork
• Rude, dismissive finance staff
• No follow-up or accountability afterward
If you’re considering buying a vehicle here, especially a used one, I strongly recommend thinking twice and getting everything independently verified. I expected transparency and professionalism from a Toyota dealership, and I received neither.

Literally the day I made a 4:00 appt, I was told that I might be losing my job, btw, for something I didn't do!
I went and was shown literally 2 cars & the salesman said "ok great, let's get the paperwork started". I told him that I would call him back the next day, once I knew that my job was secured. And, I also told him not to talk to my elderly husband. He's on S.S. and always worries about money & had just gotten out of the hospital.. They next day, my husband was called more than once and I received an email asking when I was coming in to trade in my car.
My response was simple... a good New Year's resolution would be sensitivity with sales. I sold Real Estate for over 25 yrs, my husband was a customer! That's what I call good Karma. I will never be going to that dearship again. His name starts with the letter A. and he said he was a manager. No thank you. I would rather buy a car from someone that is just starting out! Before they become..... nothing nice left to say. Still need a car but now I've been in accounting for the last 7 yrs. I'll try again after 4/16/26, but definitely somewhere else where the customers come first!

There’s a lot of things to say about Northridge Toyota.
So I came in today to check out a Jeep. Went over numbers, 32k for the Jeep isn’t the issue but if you want me to take the car today at least make sure the scratches and dirt is at least off the car. Horrible presentation of it. Then was helped by Kelly Cortez today who was nice.
She provided options today, one of them being what seemed to be an insurance fraud option. She mentioned having a one of her personal mechanics take the car, called him in front of me, and basically said they can make a total loss claim and use my GAP insurance to cover what was owed for the car to get me out of the negative equity that was built from my car, yet it would really affect ME. Is this really the type of business toyota northridge is doing ? cause it’s seems fraudulent and illegal. I then TEXTED her company # to see if i can have the name of the mechanic and she texted me from a personal number begging to have it removed and was saying “everyone is doing it at the dealership”. That doesn’t sound legal if the team is doing that, makes me wonder how the business bureau would look at that.
I also tried to speak to someone about having my credit being ran multiple times yet nothing was done (when im not present) on getting me vehicles yet this is just unnecessary and again, sketch.
i’d avoid Northridge Toyota for these reasons moving forward.

Finance department added $7,700+ in optional products to my loan without my consent.
I bought out my Lexus lease here and later discovered they had rolled in thousands in optional add-ons I never knowingly agreed to — service contract, maintenance plan, debt cancellation, and a paint protection package. I wasn’t given a copy of the contract at signing and only realized what happened after requesting it days later.
After escalating to the Finance Director and General Manager, the products were eventually canceled and refunded — but not before I accrued interest on an inflated loan balance. My request to be refunded the difference was ignored.
I’ve filed complaints with the CFPB, California DMV Investigations Division, and Toyota Motor Sales USA. Be careful if you finance here. Review your paperwork before you sign.

I didn’t want to have to do this, but they have left me no choice.
The purchase of our car was a fine enough experience. The salespeople were pleasant, because they were trying to make a sale, and we enjoyed their coffee bar. Restrooms were nice and clean.
When we bought our car in March, our 2019 Highlander did not have an owner’s manual. They offered us a 2017 manual saying it was the same, but my husband wanted the real one.
We were told they would get one to us. I have called 9-10 times over the months since then trying to follow up, but I have either been transferred to the wrong people, hung up on “accidentally“ or left a message without a return call. I did get two calls back, and one guy seemed to actually care, but then didn’t follow through. The sales person that sold us the car did send a link to a digital copy of the manual, but when I tried to print it quite a bit of it looked like an alien language and was useless.
The last time I called, I said I will have to leave a review if you don’t help me. No one did.
It might seem dumb that we didn’t just buy one, but I wanted them to follow through with what they said. I told them, just tell me if you’re not gonna do it so I can buy one, and they would never admit they changed their minds or lied about it, just strung me along.
Because “My Wish is Their Command”. Not this time…I wish I had an owner’s manual.
As a follow up- I received a 2019 owner’s manual today- 2 weeks after writing a review. This (it appears) is the quickest means to getting help. Or if you are having trouble, ask for David Peck.
