My fiancé and I hadn’t been to the movies in a while, so we decided it would be nice to plan a date night. We usually go to AMC, but this time we wanted to try something different, so we chose Movie Tavern. We bought our tickets online and noticed we could pre-order food, so we scheduled a few items for 7:50 for a 7:30 movie.
When we arrived, there was no one scanning tickets, so we just walked in. We saw an employee near our theater, so we let him know we hadn’t checked in, and asked if our food would still come out as scheduled. He hesitated for a moment but then assured us it would be fine and that the food would arrive as planned.
By around 8:00, we hadn’t received our food, so my fiancé went to the concession stand to confirm our order was in. He was told they were working on it and that it should be out soon. Another 15 minutes passed and still no food, so he checked again and was given the same response.
Around 8:20, servers started going in and out of our theater delivering food, but then it came to a stop. I tried to be patient and gave it a few more minutes, but by 8:50 we still hadn’t received our order. At that point, I was extremely frustrated, so I went to the concession stand to speak with a manager. One happened to be there, and when I explained the situation, he said they were just a little backed up. I understand delays happen, but waiting an hour for food that should only take a few minutes to prepare felt unreasonable—it’s not like we ordered a tomahawk steak or anything.
The manager was not very professional, and he never apologized, but he also didn’t argue. He agreed to give me a refund, so I went back to grab my card. When I returned, there was an entire line of people also waiting for refunds. I spoke with a couple in line, and they said their movie had already ended and they never received their food either, which was honestly unbelievable.
When I was getting my refund, I also noticed the total didn’t even match what I had paid. By then, I was so annoyed and ready to leave that I didn’t want to spend any more time dealing with it, so I just accepted it and took the loss of a couple of dollars.
At that point, we decided to leave. We had already missed so much of the movie going back and forth, and we were still hungry. It was late, so our dining options were limited, which made it even more frustrating. Considering it had taken us nearly 40 minutes to get there, followed by an hour and a half of sitting in a theater waiting and not being able to focus on the movie—only to have another long drive back home—the whole evening felt like a complete waste. It was incredibly disappointing, and we definitely won’t be returning!
