When you explore historic places, you will marvel at how history has shaped our world. And that’s Holmes County Historical Society’s mission: to promote historical sites, studies and experiences through discovery, collection, preservation and presentation.
As part of the Holmes County Cultural Center Campus in Millersburg, Ohio, we are located in an authentic Victorian House that you can tour to get a sense for the time period. Plus explore all of the local history documented in collections scattered throughout the home. There are different themed rooms, ranging from military history traced back to the Civil War to law history showcasing courthouse memorabilia. And for the holidays, the house is transformed into the Holidays at the Mansion. Set in the heart of Ohio’s Amish Country, the 7,000-square-foot Victorian House furnished in Queen Anne style is a national tourist attraction, as it has appeared on HGTV’s “Victorian America,” featured in Victorian Homes magazine, and filmed for Hollywood movie productions. Come see it for yourself!
The adjacent Glass Museum features the only public collection in the world of Millersburg Glass, which was only produced from 1909-1912 making the glass pieces very rare. In this historical museum, you’ll find 400 masterpieces cherished by collectors worldwide.
In addition to these two historical places, there are other historical landmarks nearby, as we are located six blocks from the Millersburg downtown historic district—making the entire county a must-visit destination.
And for those who are researching genealogy to learn more about their family history or are interested in past events and local history, we have a historical research center complete with a newspaper collection dating back to 1845.
We are preserving the past for the future. Come take a step back in time and enjoy all of the splendor!
